      💡 BusinessZindagi Tip

      What is HS Code?

The Harmonized System (HS) code is an internationally standardised product classification used for customs tariffs, trade statistics and DGFT policy. India uses the Customs Tariff aligned to HS.

      Why HS Codes Matter

Wrong classification can mean incorrect duty, delayed clearance, penalties or denied export benefits. Always confirm with the tariff and a licensed Customs Broker (CHA).

How to Find the Correct HS Code
      1. Describe the product precisely (material, use, form).
      2. Locate Chapter → Heading → Subheading in the Customs Tariff.
      3. Check Section/Chapter notes and GIR rules.
      4. Verify import/export policy on DGFT and GST rate notifications.
      Import vs Export Classification

The same HS structure is used for import and export, but policy (Free / Restricted / Prohibited / STE) and documentation can differ by direction and product.

      Frequently Asked Questions

Is this an official HS code database?

No. It is an educational assistant with indicative matches. Final classification rests with Customs Tariff, DGFT and CBIC guidance.

What is a likely HS code?

A code that often applies to similar products based on description keywords — not a legal determination.

Can GST rate differ from tariff?

GST is notified separately; always cross-check GST rate schedules for your HSN.

      Who should confirm classification?

A qualified Customs Broker (CHA) or your compliance team using the official tariff and notifications.

Why do tea grades have different codes?

Form and processing (e.g. black tea, green tea, extracts) can fall under different headings.

Disclaimer: This tool provides indicative guidance only. Final classification should be confirmed using the Customs Tariff, DGFT notifications, CBIC guidance or a qualified Customs Broker.

      What Can You Calculate?

The BusinessZindagi Container Loading Calculator helps exporters, importers, freight professionals and businesses estimate:

      • 📦 Number of cartons that may fit inside a container
      • 📐 Container and cargo volume in CBM
      • ⚖️ Cargo weight and payload utilisation
      • 🪵 Approximate pallet capacity
      • 🚢 20 FT, 40 FT and 40 HC container capacity
      • 🔄 Different container and carton loading scenarios
      • 📊 Volume and weight utilisation

How to Calculate How Many Cartons Fit in a Container

To estimate container loading capacity, you need the carton length, width and height, carton weight and the internal dimensions and payload of the selected container. The calculator uses these inputs to estimate the number of cartons that can fit based on volume, physical dimensions and weight limitations.

Actual loading capacity can be lower because of carton orientation, stacking restrictions, palletisation, door dimensions, cargo securing requirements and unused spaces.

Container Loading Capacity: 20 FT vs 40 FT vs 40 HC

      20 FT Container

A 20 FT container is commonly used for heavier or relatively compact cargo where payload rather than volume may become the limiting factor.

      40 FT Container

A 40 FT container provides substantially more internal volume and is often suitable for larger shipments of relatively lightweight cargo.

      40 HC Container

A 40 High Cube container provides additional internal height compared with a standard 40 FT container, making it useful when cargo volume and vertical space are important.

Use the calculator above to compare estimated carton, pallet, volume and payload capacity across container types.

      FAQ

How many cartons fit in a 20 FT container?

The number depends on carton dimensions, carton weight, stacking method, orientation and the container’s internal dimensions and payload.

How many cartons fit in a 40 FT container?

There is no single fixed number. Larger cartons, heavier products and inefficient packing can significantly reduce the number of cartons that can be loaded.

How do I calculate CBM for container shipping?

CBM is calculated from length × width × height in metres. For multiple identical cartons, multiply the CBM of one carton by the number of cartons.

What is the difference between a 40 FT and 40 HC container?

A 40 HC container generally provides additional internal height compared with a standard 40 FT container, increasing available volume.

      Is the calculator’s result exact?

No. It is an estimate for planning purposes. Actual loading depends on packaging, carton orientation, stacking, pallets, door dimensions, securing requirements, carrier restrictions and applicable weight limits.

      ⚠️ Important Loading Disclaimer

This calculator provides an estimated loading capacity for planning purposes. Actual container utilisation may vary depending on internal dimensions, carton orientation, palletisation, stacking, cargo securing, door dimensions, shipping-line requirements, road weight restrictions and other operational factors. Always confirm final loading plans with your freight forwarder, carrier or logistics provider
