Frequently Asked Questions

What is a SWIFT code?

A SWIFT code (also called BIC) identifies a bank in the global SWIFT network used for international payments.

Are SWIFT and BIC the same?

Yes. BIC (Business Identifier Code) is the formal name; SWIFT code is the common term for the same identifier.

Does every Indian bank have a SWIFT code?

Not every branch. Most banks have a head-office SWIFT and selected branches that handle forex / export payments.

Can exporters receive payments without SWIFT?

International wire transfers almost always need the beneficiary bank’s SWIFT / BIC. Confirm the correct code with your bank before sharing invoice details.

Difference between SWIFT and IFSC?

IFSC is for payments inside India (NEFT/RTGS/IMPS). SWIFT is for cross-border transfers. Indian exporters usually need both: IFSC for INR legs and SWIFT for foreign currency receipts.
